Rain has a way of softening everything. The morning of Erin and Christian’s newborn session arrived gray and cold, the kind of November day that invites you to stay inside and move slowly. Their townhome in the Otterdale area of Midlothian felt quiet and warm, filled with that unmistakable stillness that settles in when a new baby has just arrived. Weston’s presence was gentle — shifting between sleepy and alert, calm and hungry — while the soft window light and steady rhythm of rain outside wrapped the entire space in peace.
Erin moved through the morning with a grounded ease, glowing in that way only mothers of newborns do — experienced, but still in awe. Christian carried a quiet pride, holding his son with careful attention while offering steady, quiet support to Erin. And Connolly, full of life and energy, moved between moments of silliness and tenderness, equally proud of her brother and eager for connection. The house felt lived in and real — not staged, not interrupted, but simply expanding to hold one more heartbeat within it.
What stayed with me most was how seamlessly everything had shifted to make room for Weston. The family moved around one another with quiet understanding — Erin balancing her love effortlessly between both children, Christian offering steady support, and Connolly finding her place in this new dynamic with both pride and curiosity. It didn’t feel like something new had disrupted their life, but rather that Weston had always been part of it, simply waiting for his moment to arrive. One day, they’ll look back at these images and see this season for what it was — the beginning of Weston’s story, and the quiet unfolding of a family becoming something more.

In-home newborn sessions offer something studio sessions simply cannot — the comfort and authenticity of documenting your family exactly where your life is happening. Erin and Christian didn’t need to pack bags, rush out the door, or step into an unfamiliar environment. Instead, they stayed in the space where Weston would grow up, where Connolly would learn to be his big sister, and where their family was already finding its new rhythm.
Their townhome in Midlothian, Virginia provided soft, natural window light, quiet corners for connection, and the emotional familiarity that allows everyone to relax. These sessions move at the pace your baby needs — pausing for feeding, soothing, or simply holding them close. Nothing is forced or overly posed. The focus stays on connection, presence, and the truth of this season.
As a newborn photographer serving Richmond and surrounding areas, I’ve found that families often choose in-home lifestyle newborn sessions because they want their images to reflect their real life — not a temporary studio setting, but the place their child will grow, be held, and be remembered. Years from now, these images won’t just show what Weston looked like. They’ll show where his story began.

One of my favorite moments from this session came when I asked Connolly to bring me her favorite toy. She disappeared down the hall and returned dragging a stuffed elephant nearly her size, completely serious about her offering. She handed it to me proudly, fully expecting it to be part of the session — and of course, it was. The elephant made its way into several photos, becoming part of the story in such a sweet way.
I never expect children to perform or behave a certain way during sessions. My job is to create space for them to feel included, seen, and important in the process. When children are given ownership in small ways, it helps them feel safe — and that’s when the most honest moments unfold.
I approach every newborn session this way. There’s no pressure to be perfect or know what you’re doing. You don’t need to perform. You simply get to be present with your family, while I quietly document what already exists.

If you’re expecting and want to document your baby’s first days in a natural, meaningful way, you can learn more about my newborn sessions [here] or [send a note] to begin the conversation. I photograph in-home lifestyle newborn sessions throughout Midlothian, Richmond, Chesterfield County, and surrounding Virginia areas, preserving the quiet beginnings that pass more quickly than anyone expects.
Lifestyle newborn sessions take place in your home. In-home sessions allow me to document your family naturally in a space that already holds meaning.
Most families schedule their newborn sessions 2-4 weeks after birth, but lifestyle sessions are flexible and can happen whenever you feel ready. The focus is on connection, not strict timelines.
You don’t need a perfect home — I look for the best natural light and guide you every step of the way. The focus is on your connection with your baby, not perfection.
