The November sun showed up gently that morning, casting a warm glow across the fall leaves scattered around the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. There was a crispness in the air and just enough wind to remind us the seasons were shifting. Families arrived one after another, bundled in soft layers and carefully chosen outfits, stepping into the frame for their ten minutes together. The pace was quick and lively, full of movement and laughter, with barely a pause between sessions. It was energetic and chaotic in the best possible way. Babies wrapped tightly against their mothers, toddlers darting in and out of reach, and even a few curious pets made their way into the story of the day.
What stayed with me most was the devotion. Mothers jumping behind me to coax smiles, smoothing hair, straightening sleeves, and doing everything in their power to preserve this fleeting version of their family exactly as it is right now. There were newborns just days old, older siblings adjusting to their new roles, and children whose personalities filled the space instantly. Libbie moved through it all like a steady anchor, greeting each family with warmth and familiarity. She remembered everyone’s names, their stories, and held space for them in a way that made everyone feel seen. My mother-in-law, Lynn, stood beside us the entire day too—helping entertain little ones, greeting families, and stepping in wherever she was needed. It was a reminder that none of this happens alone. It truly takes a village.
Days like this leave me both exhausted and deeply fulfilled. I believe mothers deserve to be documented with their children, regardless of budget or circumstance. Time continues forward whether we’re ready for it or not, and babies do not wait. Offering mini sessions in this format allows me to make space for more families, to make this work accessible, and to continue serving my community in a way that feels honest and sustainable. Many of these families have stayed connected with me ever since, sending Christmas cards, booking full sessions, and allowing me to witness their stories unfold over time. That is the part that stays with me long after the day ends.

Hot Mama Collective is a Richmond-based lactation and motherhood support practice led by Libbie and Brittney, International Board Certified Lactation Consultants dedicated to serving families through pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. Their work goes far beyond clinical support—they create community. Through education, encouragement, and hands-on care, Libbie and Brittney help mothers feel confident and supported in one of the most vulnerable and transformative seasons of their lives.
Collaborating with Hot Mama Collective feels like a natural extension of my own work. Libbie has been a steady supporter of my business from the very beginning—creating opportunities for connection, championing my work, and showing up with genuine care. We share a deep belief that mothers deserve to feel seen, supported, and documented in the fullness of their experience. Our November collaboration was so meaningful that we’ve already planned several additional mini session dates together for 2026.
Our next Richmond motherhood mini session date is scheduled for February 28, 2026 at the VMFA, with only five spots remaining. Reserve your spot here.
These sessions are intentionally designed to provide an affordable, meaningful way for mothers in Richmond, Virginia to preserve this chapter of their lives with their children.

If you attend one of these mini sessions, you can expect more than just photos. You can expect warmth, laughter, and a space where your children are allowed to be exactly who they are. These days move quickly, but the connections built within them last far longer. I’m endlessly grateful for Libbie, for Lynn, and for every mother who shows up and allows me to witness her family exactly as they are.
At one point during the day, one of the moms casually pulled a can of whipped cream out of her bag and used it as on-the-spot bribery—offering her kids a quick squirt straight to the mouth whenever they needed a little refocusing. It was equal parts hilarious and genius. Spirits stayed high, everyone was laughing, and honestly… it worked. A true life hack. Moments like that remind me that these sessions aren’t about perfection. They’re about real life, real personalities, and the small creative ways mothers hold everything together behind the scenes.

Mini sessions create an accessible entry point for families who want beautiful, honest documentation without the time or financial investment of a full session. Held at meaningful Richmond locations like the VMFA, they offer a relaxed, efficient way to preserve the connection between mothers and their children as they grow and change.
As a Richmond motherhood photographer, my goal is to create photographs that feel true to your family—images that hold emotional weight and reflect the quiet beauty of the life you’re living right now. Whether through full sessions or collaborative mini session events, this work is rooted in community, care, and honoring the mothers who trust me to witness their stories.
Most sessions take place outdoors at meaningful Richmond locations like the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA), which offers natural textures, open space, and soft light year-round. We may explore public parks and other Richmond landmarks as the year progresses.
Mini sessions are perfect for mothers with newborns, babies, toddlers, or older children who want updated photos without committing to a full session. (Pets are welcome, too!)
Mini sessions are released on select dates throughout the year in collaboration with Hot Mama Collective. You can reserve your spot for our February sessions through the booking link in this post while availability lasts.
